What establishes a covered module failure?

A warning light, P0A80, or a weak battery block supports diagnosis but does not identify one module by itself. A covered defect is established by controlled testing showing capacity below the purchased tier, abnormal load collapse, abnormal self-discharge, or another covered internal failure.

How to make a claim

Contact Maxx Volts within 90 days with the order number, module serial, vehicle information, and a description of the problem. Customers without specialized equipment may return the identified module under an RMA for bench testing.

What You Are Buying

This product represents one Toyota Prius hybrid-battery module.

These modules had 6.5 Ah of capacity when new. Each module sold here has been reconditioned and load-tested on a battery analyzer.

Vehicle Fitment & Module Counts

A Prius Generation 2 or 3 battery has 14 blocks of two modules each. If diagnostic information identifies a bad block, either one or both modules in that block may require replacement.

Prius Gen 2 / Gen 3: 28 modules
Lexus CT200h: 28 modules
Lexus HS250h: 28 modules
Prius C / Aqua: 20 modules
Camry Hybrid: 34 modules
Silverado / Tahoe Hybrid: 40 modules

Compatible applications include Prius Generation 2 (2004–2009), Prius Generation 3 (2010–2015), Prius C, 2006–2011 Camry Hybrid, Silverado Hybrid, Tahoe Hybrid, Lexus CT200h, Lexus HS250h, and Lexus GS450h.

Capacity, Charge & Matching

Standard selection: 4.0–5.0 Ah estimated capacity. Modules ship at roughly 50% state of charge and approximately 7.8 volts.

These modules work well in vehicles with more than 150,000 miles. For a vehicle with fewer than 150,000 miles, consider the 5.0–6.0 Ah capacity option in the product dropdown.

The goal is to match a replacement module with the characteristics of the existing modules in the battery.

Installer Responsibility

The consumer/installer is responsible for final balancing and voltage-matching the modules before returning the repaired pack to service. This may require charging some modules or discharging others to achieve state-of-charge balance.

Some installers connect all positive terminals together and all negative terminals together for 48 hours before returning the modules to the normal series configuration. Either balancing method may be used.

A lower-capacity module in a higher-capacity battery—or a higher-capacity module in a lower-capacity battery—can cause diagnostic codes or a check-engine light.

Self-Discharge Testing

After reconditioning, these modules sit for 30 days and are retested to confirm that they do not have higher-than-normal self-discharge.

Most module sellers do not perform this time-consuming step.

Limited Module Availability

Because module inventory is limited, Maxx Volts may reserve available modules for existing and new customers who have invested in charger/discharger tools and have the equipment needed to repair and balance a battery after module replacement.
